Edition limited to 1275 numbered copies on specially made Dutch paper, this is no 259. Scarce. First published in 1584 as a rational and humane challenge to early modern witch-hunting and superstition. Widely regarded as one of the earliest works of English scepticism, this work was famously condemned and ordered to be burned by James VI and I. Scot systematically dismantles beliefs in witchcraft, demons, and magical practices, arguing instead for natural explanations and condemning the persecution of supposed witches as cruel and unjust.
