Robbins ‘The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and Demonology’ p. 453-454. Kernot ‘Bibliotheca Diabolica’ p. 9 (1665 ed.). Third edition. The most important book in English to attack the witchcraft delusion. First published 1584, and reprinted in 1651, 1654, and 1665. The debate surrounding witchcraft continued, and The Discovery of Witchcraft remained an important text for those against the trials. So important, in fact, that scholars once believed King James I burned all existing copies in 1603 to prevent its spread. However, no credible evidence proves this happened. The second edition didn’t appear until 1651.
