Sonderabdruck aus dem 'Archiv für Eisenbahnwesen', 1899. Charlier, best known as an astronomer. Student at Uppsala University in 1881. He studied in Russia as well as in Germany and in Copenhagen. In 1897 he became professor of astronomy and director of the Observatory at Lund University. In 1898 he was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Charlier has also been called upon for all sorts of tasks within the university's administration and board. He has also been called upon to participate in public investigations, including the introduction of zone tariffs on state railways and the establishment of state money lotteries. [SBL].
